NIACC Stories

NIACC is Bustin’ Out Blue

You can feel the thump-thump of the music filling the gymnasium. The excitement travels through you as if you are one of the players or cheerleaders running out on the court. This. This is college. This is the community feeling when you find the right fit.

There are other ‘right fit’ aspects you need to consider too—such as location, cost and class size.
All are equally important.

What if you could go on a college visit that was incredibly fun, but also informative? What if you had the opportunity to win scholarships and prizes and really get a feel for what life would be like on campus?
If you’re looking for the ultimate college visit experience, mark your calendar for Saturday, February 18th to attend Bustin’ Out Blue at NIACC.

This is one campus visit you won’t want to miss! You’ll get to cheer on the Men and Women Trojans as they take to the basketball court that day, play games, and win prizes! Your time at NIACC will include a tour of campus and housing facilities, along with a first-hand look into your academic area, financial aid information, and scholarships.

While registration will be taken in advance, you can also register in the NIACC gym from 12:45 – 1:00 the day of the event. There, you’ll receive your FREE NIACC t-shirt as well as the schedule of events for the day.

The visit kicks off at 1:00 with a short program which will include information on Admissions, Clubs, Activities, Scholarships, Financial Aid and Program information for your interest area and major. From there, you’ll head to the gym for the Women’s basketball game and see a NIACC Dance Team performance. Great prizes will be awarded to those attending Bustin’ Out Blue during halftime, and you must be present to win!

Following the game, the visit will take you over to campus housing for a tour. This tour can either be on your own, or with a NIACC Student Ambassador. Either way, be sure to drop your ticket in the box at Housing because there will be even more prizes handed out later!

The NIACC Trojan Men will take the court at 3:00 that afternoon. More prizes, and even a few scholarships, will be awarded at halftime, so make sure you stick around to see if you win.
Bustin’ Out Blue is open to any high school age student and their family. While all incoming athletes receive a postcard invitation to attend, this campus visit is for anyone looking to learn more about NIACC and what it means to be a Trojan.

“When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by (Admissions Director) Rachel McGuire who remembered my mom and I from previous visits. That showed me that NIACC and its staff are dedicated to getting to know each student as individuals which made me even more confident in my decision in attending NIACC.”

Katy Olive, NIACC student

While Katy knew she’d be attending NIACC in the fall, Bustin’ Out Blue was another chance for her to tour the campus and get a feel for where she’d spend her next two years. In fact, Katy was so impressed she decided to become a Student Ambassador herself!

Throughout the day, two $1000 scholarships will be awarded for campus housing, and one $1000 for general tuition costs. Prizes include many coveted “college themed” items such as a Smart TV, portable speakers, headphones and NIACC apparel.

Anne Boyer, Enrollment Specialist in Student Services, encourages all students to attend this event. “We personally invite all incoming signed athletes as well as all Juniors and Seniors we’ve previously been in contact with,” she said. “However, we often see sophomores and freshman attend as well. Everyone is welcome and highly encouraged to attend.”

If you have an interest in checking out what NIACC has to offer, then Bustin’ Out Blue is the way to do it! Don’t let the stress of choosing your higher education institution get you down.
