Tuition and Expenses
Tuition charges reflect a $193.25 per credit hour rate for Iowa residents; non-residents pay $289.88 per credit hour, effective during the Fall Semester. Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois residents attending North Iowa Area Community College are eligible for a scholarship to cover up to the difference in resident and non-resident tuition.
If you live in the residence halls, housing & food is $8,000 annually. Students can also plan on spending roughly $800 a year for books and supplies. The average full-time student takes 15 credit hours and the average part-time student takes 6 to 9 hours. A variety of financial assistance is available, including grants, scholarships, loans and part-time employment.

This Cost Calculator will help you determine your cost for one semester at NIACC. A full time student typically registers for 15 credit hours each semester. To be considered a part time student, enrollment is less than 12 credit hours.
- Nearly two thirds (2/3) of NIACC students receive financial assistance, and a majority work while attending school.
- NIACC has a flexible payment plan which allows students to pay for their education on a monthly basis.
- Students may qualify for a tax credit by attending NIACC. The HOPE tax credit applies to the first two years of college. The Lifetime Learning Credit is targeted to adults returning to school, changing careers, or taking a few classes to upgrade their skills.
