Paid Nutritional Assistant
Paid Nutritional Assistant (PNA) training introduces the long-term care employee to the role and function of the PNA. After completing this state-approved training, the employee will achieve a basic level of knowledge and demonstrate skills necessary to safely assist the resident with feeding.
NIACC offers this course in a train-the-trainer format. All course materials will be provided to the Registered Nurse selected by the facility to deliver this 8-hour training to non-nursing employees. Certificates of completion are provided by NIACC; all course records are maintained by NIACC.
Benefits of PNAs to the resident:
- Promote nutrition and hydration
- Reduce weight loss and dehydration of the resident
- Give nursing staff the opportunity to provide skilled care to other residents
