VA Unexpected Deployment
NIACC will assist student veterans who are called to active duty. Institutional procedures are in place for easing such a transition for the student.
Once orders for deployment are received by the student, he/she must provide a copy of the orders to the VA Certifying Official. The VA Certifying Official will visit with the student and notify the appropriate faculty regarding the deployment orders.
If the student is unable to bring the orders to the college, they can be sent by mail or delivered by a third party.
Students or the spouse of a member of the military, if the member has a dependent child, who are ordered to active military duty during an enrollment period will be provided the following three options:
- Withdrawal and a 100% refund of tuition and fees.
- Withdrawal and credit the charges for the same number of semester hours toward a future term of enrollment. This option is only available after all applicable refund periods have expired and the student’s account has been paid in full.
- Accelerate the course and earn credit prior to departure for active military duty. Student must have instructor permission to use this option.
