Dream Scholar Award for DACA Students
On June 18, the Supreme Court handed down a ruling that left the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program intact. This decision is a positive step in support of hardworking and talented students and reaffirms North Iowa Area Community College’s (NIACC) continuing commitment to equal access and educational equity for everyone in our region, regardless of immigration status.
“DACA students are an important part of our campus community and we remain committed to supporting them in their educational goals,” said NIACC President Steve Schulz.
NIACC’s Dream Scholar Award was designed with that purpose in mind six years ago, and with the Supreme Court ruling not to end DACA, NIACC will continue to support and empower undocumented and DACAmented students to reach their career goals.
NIACC’s bilingual enrollment officer & international student recruiter Valeria Gonzalez shared, “Our role is to provide real hope, to work with students and their families, supporting them to gain the caliber of education they need to walk through that door of opportunity when it is opened. We continue to support DACA students and Dreamers here at NIACC by offering them the opportunity to help reach their potential on their educational journey.”
