Definition and Purpose
The purpose of the program is to provide employment opportunities for students who need to work in order to pay their educational expenses and at the same time provide them an opportunity to gain valuable work experience.
Student Eligibility
- Demonstrate financial need
- Complete the FAFSA by the March 1st Priority Filing Date
The student must be enrolled at least half-time in a program leading to a diploma or degree. If the student withdraws or drops below half-time he or she immediately becomes ineligible to continue employment under the work-study program. Contact the NIACC Financial Aid Office if you have questions about your Work Study Eligibility.
How to Apply for a Job…
- Students who are eligible for work study will receive information regarding work study positions at the beginning of the semester via their NIACC email. This will notify them of the amount of work study funds they are eligible for and how to contact potential supervisors.
- Students who were not offered work study may complete the Work Study Waitlist form at the NIACC Financial Aid Office to be considered for a work study position
Once a student has been hired…
- Initial Employment Approval Form and FERPA Agreement – The student will complete this form with their supervisor once they have been hired.
- Sexual Harassment Training – NIACC is committed to creating a work and educational environment in which students and employees work and learn in an environment free of sexual harassment. NIACC employees are required to complete an online training on sexual harassment. Student employees must complete the counseling by visiting with their supervisor or the Financial Aid Office.
- I9 & W4 with two forms of Government ID – Students are to complete these forms at the NIACC Business Office and provide two forms of Government issued ID. These forms must be completed prior to beginning work.
- Timesheet Training – Students should complete timesheet training with their supervisor to make sure they accurately complete their timesheet daily.
- Review the position expectations with their supervisor and develop a work schedule.
Payroll
- Payroll time periods always end the second Friday of the month (refer to back of timesheet for specific dates)
- Timesheets must be signed by the student and supervisor and turned in the Monday following the second Friday of the month
- Work Study positions start at $10/hour
- Student’s may not work more than 20 hours per week
- Students are paid the last working day of the month
- Work study earnings are applied to your NIACC student account. If your account is paid in full, you can pick up your paycheck at the NIACC Business Office with a photo I.D.
Wait List
If you did not meet the priority filing date to be considered for work study and you are interested in a position, stop by the NIACC Financial Aid Office once the fall semester begins to be put on the work study wait list.
