Veteran’s Assistance
NIACC offers assistance for students applying for their veteran’s educational benefits. The VA Certifying Official serves as the liason between the student and the federal Department of Veterans Affairs.
NIACC’s programs are approved by the Veterans Education Unit of the Iowa Department of Education for the training of eligible persons.
To be eligible for VA benefits, a NIACC student must:
- Be eligible for one of the benefit programs from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs;
- Pursuing an eligible program of study;
- Enrolled in courses applicable to the eligible program of study;
- Maintain Academic Good Standing.
Students can receive benefits all three semesters at NIACC. Students are advised to apply for veteran benefits when applying for admission to NIACC. Forms are available from the VA Certifying Official. If your benefits are a result of being on active duty, you will be asked to submit a certified copy of your DD214. Persons applying from the reserves or National Guard should submit a copy DD Form 2384, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE), along with your application. The initial application process can take 6 weeks, so students are advised to start the process as early as possible.
For students who previously received VA education benefits from another school, VA Form 1995 (Change of Program or Place of Training) must be completed and submitted to the VA Certifying Official.
