Assessment
The purpose of assessment at NIACC is to support the College’s goal of continuously improving teaching and student learning. The key measure of a successful assessment program is that it results in improvements in teaching and learning. The Educational Effectiveness Committee (EEC), a representative committee from all arts and sciences and career divisions at NIACC, coordinates the assessment activities at NIACC. Oversight of assessment activities is the responsibility of the Curriculum and Academic Affairs Committee. Four general education objectives are assigned to specific divisions. Learning activities are geared toward helping students improve their skills in those specific areas. Divisions develop an Assessment Plan that includes the desired learning outcomes related to the objectives. Annually and in the fall, divisions report their students’ progress on those learning outcomes. The EEC meets with all divisions annually to go over their assessment plans and provides feedback intended to help improve teaching and learning. Assessment Plans are fluid documents that are updated annually.
