Kathy is sentenced to a prison term, only to discover that her erratic actions were motivated by her bipolar disorder. Once diagnosed and treated with medication, she learns her sentence is commuted and she is released back into the community. Upon returning to her hometown in rural Iowa to reconcile with her estranged 12-year-old daughter, she discovers that her grandfather suffered a heart attack. Conflict with her family sets her on a course to free her irascible grandfather from a nursing home and live his last days out on his farm. As she struggles to maintain balance with her condition, complications with her daughter’s well-being and her grandfather’s health test her sense of self-worth to the limit. Through self-acceptance and perseverance, she forges unexpected new levels of love and heroism.

Tanna Frederick as Kathy

Tanna Frederick is an Actress, Producer, and Environmental Activist. She has starred in six feature films with film iconoclast Henry Jaglom, and has won numerous Best Actress awards on the festival circuit. Method Fest named her “One to Watch”; she has received the CineCause Award, the University of Iowa’s Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival’s Maverick Award. Tanna alongside director Randal Kleiser (Grease) created and launched DEFROST, a revolutionary virtual reality experience, premiering at Sundance and Cannes. She is the founder of ProjectSaveOurSurf.org hosting monthly beach cleanups and a camp, which has reached thousands of displaced youth in Southern California and Mexico, educating them on environmental issues in our oceans.

Tom Bower as Walter

Tom Bower was born in January 1938 in Denver, Colorado. A veteran actor who has been active in film, television and theater for 45 years, Tom has appeared in over 170 motion pictures, 100 theatrical productions across the United States, and produced over 25 plays. Tom has recently been inducted into the Colorado Film Hall of Fame and is also a lifetime member of The Actor’s Studio and a member of Bobby Moresco’s Actors’ Gym. He is known for Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace (2013) with Christian Bale and Casey Affleck and Crazy Heart (2009) starring Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall. Other film credits include Ed Harris’ directing efforts Appaloosa (2008) and Pollack (2000), Oliver Stone’s Nixon (1995); and just-released Casey Affleck’s Light of My Life, which he wrote, directed and starred in along with Anna Pniowsky and Elizabeth Moss.

Joel West as Junior

Joel West grew up in Iowa and moved to Paris at the age of 18 to venture into the world of modeling. Over the next five years he became one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, working for Armani, Versace, Tom Ford, Hugo Boss, and landing a fully exclusive contract with Calvin Klein. He then moved to LA and enjoyed recurring roles and guest star spots on CSI – Miami, Heroes, Star Trek, Felicity, Charmed, The Division, Make it or Break it, American Dreams, and Days of Our Lives. He played the lead role of Jesus in the film The Disciple, played a diverse range of leading roles in independent films, and one short film that he wrote and produced called Withstand One Night, a comedy, which was an award winner on the festival circuit. A skilled carpenter as well, Joel moonlighted on HGTV for two seasons hosting and building for the shows Design on A Dime and Design Star.

Rylie Behr as Cori

Rylie Jo Behr was born in Mason City, Iowa. She was scouted by an agent and began commercial work at age 5. Her first film experience was in the SyFy remake of the cult classic, Children of the Corn. At 10, Rylie was cast as a lead in the feature film I Heart Shakey, and at 13, as the sassy daughter in Two Ways Home. Rylie has made it her mission to work with worthy causes that provide services and resources to vulnerable people in need. She works with with organizations such as Miracle League for children with disabilities, and was the face of Epilepsy in both Canada and the Midwest. While acting is her passion, there is no greater joy for Rylie than giving back to the world.

Director

Ron Vignone
Ron is an award-winning director whose filmmaking revolves around issues that are deeply personal and important in his life.

Two Ways Home, his latest effort, is an edgy slice of Americana about a woman living with bipolar condition who aims to reunite with her estranged teenage daughter in their sleepy Iowa hometown. “Taking the shame out of our conditions” was a theme that drew Ron to making the film.

A graduate of the University of Southern California, Vignone’s work as a filmmaker has focused on protagonists who embark on a physical journey while struggling with their deeply conflicted interiors. Ron’s inspirations come from compromising situations while traveling, his family, great literature, and strong Italian coffee.

Screenwriter

Richard Schinnow
Richard Schinnow has lived most of his years on the northern plains which figure prominently in writing Two Ways Home, and his two novels, Cast Away Stones and The Sea of Minnesota. Lifelong friends with producer Frederick’s family, he was captivated by the difficulties of growing up on a farm with a patriarch who suffered from PTSD from his service during wartime. Giving voice to the people of past generations who were discouraged to disclose their feelings is a driving force in Richard’s work.
