Preparing for the send-off
Moving into the Campus View Housing Complex
The Housing Complex has specific dates and times that students may check into their rooms. The housing contract must be signed and application/prepayment fee must be paid in full before students are assigned a room. Students who have been assigned a room may check in for Fall on either Saturday or Sunday before the Fall Semester starts from 9am – 9 pm.
Standard fitted twin sheets do NOT fit the beds. The mattress is longer and narrower than a standard twin mattress (38″ x 80″) Many discount retailers and department stores sell twin extra long sheets.
The Housing Complex room is cable-ready, all you need to supply is the tv and cable cord.
Phone jacks are available in each room. Don’t forget to bring the phone!
Lofts may be assembled in rooms following the guidelines established.
Don’t forget to bring a power cord. Local stores sell out quickly on move-in day.

Crash Course in Laundry
Our Housing Complex has laundry facilities available. $1.75 for the washer and $1.50 dryer. Change is available at the NIACC C-store.
Assume your student knows nothing. Discuss the dangers of mixing colors (one red item can ruin an entire load of wash) and water temperatures. Talk about liquid vs. powder detergent, and using bleach wisely. Discuss that overloading machines can keep clothes from getting clean. Explain what materials should or should not be placed in the dryer.
What to Send With Student
If your student is going to work on or off campus they will need to fill out payroll forms (I-9 and W-4). They will need to bring appropriate documentation with them. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will provide information on which documents are acceptable:
Prepare a health kit for your student and include the following items
-
- Box of tissues
- Bandages
- Acetaminophen or ibuprofen
- Cough Syrup or lozenges
Plan ahead for illness and medical emergencies by giving your student an insurance card and explaining the co-pay process.
