Get Ahead in High School with NIACC’s Concurrent Enrollment
Why wait until graduation? Start earning college credit NOW!
NIACC’s Concurrent Enrollment program lets you take actual college courses during high school, so you can get a head start on your college degree. Whether you’re interested in math, writing, or a specific career path, these courses are a great way to explore your future while earning credits that count!
Why Choose Concurrent Enrollment?
- Jumpstart Your Future: Get a taste of college life, gain credits, and boost your college application.
- Save Money: Earn college credits at no cost, which means fewer classes (and less tuition) once you officially start college.
- Flexible Options: Take courses that align with your interests and fit your high school schedule.
- NIACC Advantage: With NIACC’s strong academic reputation, your credits transfer easily to other colleges and universities.
How to Enroll
- Talk to Your Counselor: Interested in enrolling? Start by talking to your high school counselor or a NIACC Coordinator. They’ll help you find the right courses for your goals.
- Sign Up: Registration forms are available from your high school counselor. Once you choose your courses, we’ll guide you through the process!
- Meet Eligibility: You’ll need to meet the requirements of Iowa’s Senior Year Plus guidelines. For details, check out Iowa Department of Education.
- Prepare for Class: Ready to dive into college courses? Make sure to bring your social security number when you register. For students taking math or writing courses, ACT or ACCUPLACER scores are required. If you haven’t taken these tests yet, we can help you set up a free ACCUPLACER assessment.
Important Things to Know
- Dropping a Course: If you need to drop a class, make sure to speak with your counselor. Deadlines apply, so don’t wait until the last minute!
- Permanent Record: Remember, these are real college classes! Failing to drop a course properly could result in an “F” on your college transcript, so stay on top of things.
- Testing Info: If you’re taking a NIACC math or writing course, you’ll need ACT or ACCUPLACER scores. Haven’t taken the test yet? No problem! Contact the NIACC Admissions Office for an appointment, or ask your school if ACCUPLACER testing is available.
