NIACC Plans a Quilting Seminar
Quilting Treasures will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30 at North Iowa Area Community College. Organizers say the event offers ideas and inspirations with an opportunity to hear from experts and enthusiasts in the art of quilting.
The featured speaker will be Janet Pittman, a quilt artist from West Des Moines. Janet has been designing her own quilts since 1994. Her applique designs are stitched & then embellished to add natural texture & dimension for a realistic appearance. She has written two quilting books “Applique, the Basics & Beyond” & “On the Farm”. Janet also designs floral and kid themed quilt patterns for her pattern company Garden Trellis Designs. She is an experienced artist, quilter and instructor, she creates irresistible patterns. Janet’s designs have been published in national quilt magazines including American Patchwork & Quilting, Love of Quilting, American Quilter & Country Marketplace. Janet’s presentation & trunk show will be “Quilts from the Garden”.
Multiple workshops will be presented throughout the day, featuring the latest and greatest quilting ideas and gadgets, pattern designs, and sewing techniques. Quilt shops and quilters from Des Moines, Iowa Falls, Osage, & Strawberry Point, will be the workshop presenters. Many of the presenters will have products for sale on Market Street throughout the day.
Professional Quilt Appraiser Valorie Donk and AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser Charleen Richtsmeier, will be making a presentation called “So You’ve Got Questions”. They encourage participants to bring quilts to discuss their value. Consultations are at no charge. They will also be available to give a written appraisal for a fee.
