Drum Tao
Samuel & Patricia Congello Proudly Present Drum Tao
Samuel & Patricia Congello proudly present Drum Tao at the North Iowa Community Auditorium on the NIACC campus at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20th, 2022. This presentation is part of the 2021-2022 Performing Arts and Leadership Series.
More than 800 million spectators across the world have been touched by Drum Tao. This performing group combines music and dance for high-energy performances that have transfixed audiences on a global scale. Combining highly physical, large-scale drumming with contemporary costumes, precise choreography, and innovative visuals, these performers create an energetic and unforgettable experience.
Drum Tao was a smash hit at the world’s largest festival of the arts, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They performed at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 and sold out every performance on their first North American tour. In 2016, their Off-Broadway shows in New York sold out. Their long-running production “MANGEKYO” started in Tokyo in 2017, becoming widely popular and later expanding to an exclusive theater. They made their major recording debut with Universal Music in the same year, releasing a compilation of 25 years of their work, which ranked as one of the top three in iTunes World Album in five different countries.
In 2018, Drum Tao performed in the opening ceremony of “Japonisms 2018” in Paris, France. They were awarded “Outstanding Cultural Contribution” from Oita prefecture, “Culture Creators Award” from Taketa City, and “The 6th Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner Award” and “Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Award” from the Japanese government.
In 2020, they were supposed to perform 1,000 shows. They had no choice but to cancel more than half due to COVID-19. They restarted their tour in July 2020 and successfully performed almost 800 shows throughout 2020 and 2021. This March, they finally restart their international tour in the U.S.
