Think Pink Night Raises Funds for Mercy – North Iowa supporting Breast Health
The North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) volleyball team will host its 11th Annual Think Pink night on Thursday, October 24. The Trojans will host the Wartburg Junior Varsity team at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 (free for cancer survivors).
“Think Pink has been a platform to get our young women involved in giving back to our community and the past couple of seasons we have tried to promote all ‘colors’ of cancer, “said Chris Brandt, head volleyball coach. “This year is special to us as we honor a great man and co-worker, Randy Bonde, who passed away from cancer this summer.”
All of the proceeds will stay local and will be donated to Mercy One Breast Health to provide support, testing, and other needed services to their patients.
“This is a very exciting time of year for our volleyball program as we are in the heart of our season, but it is also a great time to give back to our community,” said Brandt. “Providing an opportunity to connect our athletes with our community to fight for a common cause will hopefully be the inspiration so that others continue the journey.”
The community can support this cause in several ways:
- Attend the volleyball match and wear pink!
- Donate
- Purchase or participate in any of the activities the night of our event. Any remaining t-shirts and event items will be sold at the door of the match. The NIACC Nursing Department will sell pink-themed treats, such as cupcakes and cookies.
“We are also very happy to remain a partner with Mercy One so that our funds stay local and we can continue to help others fight the disease,” said Brandt. “Our mission has always been to raise awareness for cancer but it also serves as a way to get our young adults involved in the world and to find a larger purpose once they leave NIACC.”
For more information, the public may contact Chris Brandt, NIACC Volleyball Head Coach at 641-422-4373 or by email at Chris.Brandt@niacc.edu. Find complete details on our athletic website: www.niacctrojans.com.
